一、先把三个选项的现状摆清楚First, the current state of all three options

As we’ve covered before, nearly all newly-granted visitor visas now carry condition 8503 (No Further Stay). This means the previous approach of “renew the visitor visa onshore when it’s about to expire” is essentially no longer workable — each time a parent wants to continue staying in Australia, a fresh application generally needs to come from offshore.

Strictly speaking, 143 hasn’t “stopped” — the queue itself is simply extremely slow. According to official figures as of February 2026, the Department is currently processing applications lodged in November 2018, with new applications expected to take 12 to 15 years to reach the front. On top of that, the latest ministerial direction (MD117) now prioritises onshore 864/884 Contributory Aged Parent applications ahead of offshore 143 applications — pushing offshore 143 applicants further back in the practical processing order.

二、870具体是什么，能用多久What exactly is the 870, and how long can it be used for

父母由在澳洲的子女（公民或PR）担保，担保人需要先通过移民局的担保资格审批。
The parent is sponsored by their child in Australia (a citizen or PR), and the sponsor must first be approved by the Department as an eligible sponsor.
